God is Merciful
God’s mercy is not limited, reluctant or easily exhausted. He is abundant in mercy, and His mercies are renewed every morning. This truth gives us confidence to draw near to Him, even when we fall short, knowing that His grace is greater than our failures and His mercy is always available to us.

God is merciful. In other words, He is full of mercy. When someone is full of something, it does not take long before it becomes evident in what they say and do. In the same way, God's mercy is evident throughout Scripture. The Bible speaks of His mercy repeatedly, and whatever God chooses to emphasise in His Word should neither be overlooked nor underestimated.
The Bible says,
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
-- Psalm 103:8 (KJV)
Think of a wealthy person you know or have heard of. What makes them wealthy? They possess money, property or other valuable assets in abundance. They have more than enough.
In the same way, when the Bible says that God is plenteous in mercy, it means that His mercy is abundant. He is never lacking in mercy, nor does He ever run out of it.
The Bible goes even further. Not only is God plenteous in mercy, but His mercies are also new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23). Imagine that wealthy person receiving fresh wealth every single morning. Remarkable, isn't it? That illustration only begins to capture the reality of God's mercy. He possesses an inexhaustible supply of mercy, and every morning He extends fresh mercies to His people.
The Implication
What does this mean for us?
It means that God has more than enough mercy to forgive our sins and look beyond our weaknesses and failures. How liberating that is! Considering how great and mighty God is, it would be terrifying if He were not merciful. Who can stand before Him or defend themselves against His judgment? No one can. Yet His abundant mercy gives us what we could never deserve.
This truth is especially important because, throughout our Christian journey, there will be times when we fall short of obedience. Sometimes we will do so unknowingly, and at other times knowingly. In those moments, knowing that God is merciful gives us the confidence to come before Him, confess our sins, receive His forgiveness and continue walking with Him.
Without this understanding, guilt and condemnation can weigh us down so heavily that we may be tempted to withdraw from God or even abandon the journey altogether.
The truth about God's abundant mercy draws us closer to Him. It frees us from the false picture of God as a harsh ruler who is simply waiting for us to fail so that He can punish us. Instead, we come to know Him as a gracious Father who delights in showing mercy to those who turn to Him.
The Application
In view of God's abundant mercy, let us never allow our failures to drive us away from Him. Whenever we fall, let us run to Him rather than from Him, knowing that He is plenteous in mercy.
At the same time, let us extend to others the same mercy we have received from God. Those who have experienced God's mercy should be quick to show mercy to others.
